Ukrainian MiG-29 hit by enemy missile, pilot killed
A Ukrainian MiG-29 aircraft was hit by a Russian missile while carrying out a combat mission on October 1, killing the pilot.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported this on Telegram , according to Ukrinform.
"Today, on October 1, 2026, another Ukrainian defender was killed in combat. Flying a MiG-29 fighter jet, he was carrying out missile and bomb strikes against Russian occupying forces on a frontline axis. During the combat mission, the aircraft was hit by an enemy missile. The pilot ejected but, unfortunately, did not survive," the statement said.
The Air Force said that Captain Marat Mambetov was a flight commander with the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade, known as the "Ghost of Kyiv."
"We extend our sincere condolences to Marat's family and loved ones. He defended Ukraine until his last breath," the Ukrainian Air Force said.
Earlier, on August 10, a MiG-29 aircraft was lost in the Odesa region while carrying out a combat mission. The pilot ejected.
