Russian Attack Sends Projectile Into Bus at Moldova Border

A projectile during a Russian attack ricocheted off the ground and struck a passenger bus at Moldova’s Palanca-Maiaky-Udobne border crossing on Monday, Oct. 5, lightly wounding a Moldovan border guard.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:38 a.m., Moldova’s Border Police said, according to the country’s public broadcaster Moldova 1 .

The bus was parked near the border barrier when it was hit. The projectile also damaged a control booth.
“According to preliminary information, the projectile damaged the bus and the control booth, while a Border Police employee sustained minor injuries. No other casualties were reported,” the Border Police said.
Authorities did not immediately identify the projectile type or confirm precisely where it was launched.
Operations at the joint Palanca-Maiaky-Udobne crossing were suspended following the incident.
Traffic toward Palanca was also stopped at the intersection of Moldova’s R30 and R31 highways while police examined the site. Vehicles were redirected toward the Tudora border crossing.
The Border Police and Moldova’s Customs Service said they were monitoring the situation and maintaining contact with Ukrainian authorities.
Residents and travelers were advised to avoid the area, seek shelter if they heard drones or explosions and not approach aircraft debris, ammunition or other unidentified objects.
The incident occurred two days after Russian strike drones entered Moldovan airspace and scattered debris across four districts during another attack on Ukraine.
Moldova has repeatedly reported drones and debris crossing its frontier during Russian attacks on neighboring Ukraine. Moldovan President Maia Sandu has accused Moscow of deliberately directing some drones into the country’s airspace.
Russia has also repeatedly attacked border crossings between Ukraine and Moldova .
On Sept. 9, a Russian attack on the Starokozache international border crossing with Moldova killed two people and injured three others. Chisinau accused Moscow of deliberately striking the crossing and attempting to justify the attack with false claims that weapons were being transported through Moldovan territory to Ukraine.
