In an exclusive interview with India Today, Pattali Makkal Katchi leader and MLA Sowmiya Anbumani spoke about launching the Madhu Illa Tamizhagam campaign in Chennai to push for an alcohol-free Tamil Nadu. She highlighted growing concerns over underage drinking among school students and pointed out that liquor consumption across the state has expanded drastically. Sowmiya Anbumani stated, "Alcohol-free Tamil Nadu should be their principle," emphasizing that while the government cites TASMAC sales as major state revenue, citizens suffer heavier financial, educational, and healthcare losses.

She also pointed out that women activists at the forefront of local TASMAC closure protests have faced multiple criminal cases and imprisonment. Calling for women's safety and public welfare, she urged the government to implement phased shutdowns of TASMAC liquor outlets.
