SC Directs Poll Body To Decide TMC Symbol Dispute Within Three Months

Tensions escalated in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain after the Indore Bench of the High Court dismissed an appeal by the Shahi Masjid committee seeking a stay on the demolition of a portion of the structure for a road-widening project. The court's order cleared the path for the administration to proceed with widening the stretch between Chhatri Chowk and Gopal Mandir ahead of Simhastha. Following the ruling, stone pelting and commotion were reported from the area, prompting police to deploy anti-riot gear, tear gas, and a baton charge to restore order.

Multiple vehicles, including auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws, were damaged during the unrest. Ujjain District Magistrate Roshan Singh clarified that the demolition of the affected portion was being carried out voluntarily by community members themselves using handheld tools, dispelling rumours of administrative demolition. Authorities detained around ten individuals, including five social media influencers accused of circulating misleading information, and warned of strict action against rumour-mongering.
