'Remove from power evil, deceitful, and violent politicians': Iran urges US voters to vote out Trump allies in 25-page letter

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has urged American voters to vote out President Donald Trump's allies in Congress as US forces pulled out of Iraq on Wednesday.

The Guards, in a 26-page letter, urge Americans to remove current leaders from office and reject US support for Israel and overseas military operations.

This comes at a decisive time as the congressional elections are scheduled for November 3. While the missive is unlikely to affect US voters, many of whom would be unaware of what is published in Iranian media, it points at issues that US political analysts say are working against Trump. The Democrats have a high possibility of regaining control over one or both legislative chambers, potentially impeding Trump's political agenda.

Trump says he does not know if Iran is going to 'give up yet

"Remove from power the evil, deceitful, and violent politicians who are responsible for America’s current state," the letter said. "Make sure your politicians understand that the world has changed."

A Reuters/Ipsos poll published on September 21 found just 17% of respondents approved Trump's handling of the cost of living, which is the top issue Americans say will determine how they vote in November. Only 34% approved of the strikes on Iran.

Avoiding new wars and putting an end to old conflicts were among Trump's promises during 2024 campaigns. Bringing down inflation was also another key pledges. However, with war with Iran, which Trump launched alongside Israel, has contributed to higher global fuel prices.

Iraq withdrawal

Trump, who broke Republican orthodoxy in 2016 by calling the invasion of Iraq a major mistake, allowed the final withdrawal from Iraq on Wednesday, which was agreed in 2024 by former President Joe Biden.

The withdrawal comes 23 years after US-led forces toppled Saddam Hussein, then triggered upheaval that culminated with the rise of Islamic State.

This comes as a major relief for Iran during ongoing war.

Peace proposal and rejection

Last week at the United Nations General Assembly, Iran floated a peace proposal that would trigger a seven-day countdown to reopening the strait and a pause in fighting.

However, Trump rejected the plan on Saturday although Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that Washington had not officially relayed a US rejection through mediators.
