Lucknow: In a sudden turn of events, 25 days after expelling him from the party over what she termed his ‘attachment’ to his father-in-law Ashok Siddharth, BSP supremo Mayawati on Monday took Akash Anand back into the party and again appointed him as its national coordinator.

The decision to take Akash Anand back came three days after he shared an emotional post on his X handle, reiterating his commitment to the BSP and Mayawati, promising to make amends and work under her guidance.

‘’Many members of the party wanted Akash to be taken back and given the old post,’’ the BSP supremo said in a post on social media.

Mayawati said she has entrusted Akash Anand with the responsibility of national coordinator of the party, hoping that he will discharge his responsibilities in a better manner. ‘’Much will depend on his behaviour,’’ she added.

Mayawati had earlier linked Akash Anand’s return to an active role in the party with his father-in-law Ashok Siddharth’s ‘retirement’ from active politics. She expelled Akash Anand from the party soon after Siddharth announced his retirement.

Mayawati, though, welcomed Siddharth’s decision to retire from active politics, but expressed doubt over Akash’s loyalty to the party and said he had failed to ‘repost’ her post about Siddharth.

‘’Akash Anand is still so much attached to his father-in-law that he did not think it fit to repost my post about Siddharth on his social media account……my post about Akash’s political career and he had earlier reposted her posts on X to showcase his loyalty,’’ Mayawati said.

Considered to be her ‘political heir apparent’, Akash had been in and out as a party office-bearer. In the past too, he was shunted out on a few occasions and then made a comeback later.

Mayawati had once stripped Akash of all his posts following his ‘immature comments’, only to reinstate him as national coordinator later after he tendered a public apology.
