White House bars Politico from Air Force One
Outlet excluded from presidential travel pool on day it was due to serve as print pool representative, reports CNN
In the latest move in a Trump administration dispute with selected media outlets, the White House on Monday barred Politico from traveling on Air Force One, the presidential plane, preventing it from fulfilling its press pool duties, CNN reported.
A Politico spokesperson confirmed to CNN that the outlet was excluded from the out-of-town travel pool, the small group of reporters who accompany the president on trips.
President Donald Trump is scheduled to travel on Monday afternoon for a campaign stop in the Midwestern state of Nebraska.
Accusing them of producing “fake news,” Trump announced on Sept. 18 that he was banning Politico, CNN, and MS NOW from the White House.
Three days later, the three outlets filed a lawsuit saying the ban violates the First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution, which cover the rights to a free press and due process, among other matters.
Federal Judge Timothy J. Kelly later issued a temporary restraining order requiring the administration to reinstate the journalists' press badges.
The temporary order expires Thursday. The outlets have asked the judge to extend it until the case is finally resolved.
