Nigeria target away win as Super Eagles travel to Guinea-Bissau

Nigeria’s Super Eagles travel from Uyo to Bissau on Monday ahead of a crucial second match in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The Nigerian side will face Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, with an away victory potentially important to their hopes of securing the sole qualification place available from Group L for the finals in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

Nigeria currently sit second in the group, behind Guinea-Bissau, who made a strong start to the qualifying campaign by defeating Tanzania 2-0 away from home.

That result has increased the significance of Tuesday’s meeting, with Nigeria aware that dropping points against the early group leaders could complicate their route to the tournament.

Head coach Eric Chelle will therefore be looking for another victory after Nigeria opened their campaign with a 2-1 home win against Madagascar on Friday.

The Eagles were forced to recover from a difficult start at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, eventually securing all three points through goals from debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor.

Despite the comeback victory, Nigeria’s performance left them with little room for complacency ahead of the trip to Bissau.

Guinea-Bissau’s opening result has given them early momentum in a group where the qualification situation is unusual because Tanzania, one of the three hosts of the 2027 AFCON , already have a guaranteed place at the finals.
