The government is struggling to fulfil many of the lofty promises. Youth are in search of jobs under the flagship 24-hour economy but the jobs are not there

The Mahama administration is struggling to fulfil many of its lofty promises, Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, has said.

He said that almost two years into office, the government has not implemented its 24-hour economy policy with a 1:3:3 shift that was promised.

"The government is struggling to fulfil many of the lofty promises. Youth in search of jobs flagbear 24-hour economy.

"Nearly 2 years have passed, and the jobs have not come or shown signs of coming," he said duing the NPP conference in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia further said that today, Saturday, October 3, marks the beginning of a glorious chapter of the NPP.

The party is electing its national executives as part of the preparations towards the 2028 general elections.

Dr Bawumia, in his address, urged all the aspirants: "Please accept the results in good faith."

For his part, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Minority to be bold to criticise and hold the Mahama government accountable without fear of arrest and intimidation.

He says the NPP owes it a duty to hold the government to account for its decisions.

"Let's hold the government accountable without fear of arrest and intimidation," he said during the NPP's conference in Kuamsi on Saturday, October 3.

He further stated that, as the flagbearer of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, "we have a doer and problem solver."

Afenyo-Markin also urged all the party members to come together and help ensure the reorganisation of the party and support the flagbearer ahead of the 2028 elections.

"The Lord is with us; come 2028, we shall prevail," he said.

For his part, Former President John Agyekum Kufuor said that the people of Ghana are yearning for the New Patriotic Party.

He said Ghana needs the NPP to steer it to prosperity and transformation.

In a video message played during the NPP's conference in Kuamsi on Saturday, October 3, he said, "Ghana needs NPP to lead to prosperity and transformation.

"So, even as we meet to pick our new crop of leaders, I want to appeal to all of you: let us, for now, select the national executive committee of the party on the careful examination to find out the sort of leadership that will enable us to regain the confidence of the people of Ghana. Let us show true respect for the idea that true sovereignty is with the people."

Former President Akufo-Addo also said that "With God's guidance, we will emerge victorious as we did in 2000 and 2016 and form the government in 2028 with Dr Bawumia."

The NPP is holding its National Delegates Congress and national officers' elections in Kumasi, where delegates will vote to determine the party's next crop of national executives.

The party has also proposed a nd adopted a number of constitutional amendments for consideration at the congress.
